SONNY VENKATRATHNAM He was educated at the University of Natal, where he first became conscious of the need for political change in South Africa. Venkatrathnam became a prominent member of the Indian Movement before being arrested and sentenced to prison for 17 years. He spent six of those years on Robben Island with Nelson Mandela and other ANC leaders. He is currently Director of Security Governenace at the University of Durban-Westville.
