This post is inspired by the Carpe Diem Haiku prompt for today, “Prayer”
When I first retired from my work in education, I went to work as a housekeeper at Prinknash Abbey This was a labour of love and I learned a great deal about the prayerful life from the Benedictine monks who live and work there. I learned from Fr Alphedge that every single thing you do can be a prayer if it is done with reverence and joy.
Peaceful and prayerful
monks, masters of mindfulness
sacramental lives
Meaningful moments
Of quiet contemplation
simple and sincere.
Alone with your thoughts
humbly open your heart, and
Let healing begin
Drowning in despair
from the core of your being
you cry to the Lord
Simple and sincere
the sorrowful supplicant
speaks softly to God
Fragile, the faithful
cry out in consternation.
Consolation comes.
Studying Icons
In silent contemplation
Wisdom is revealed

Wonderful and powerful haiku sequence…one may even say “inspired by the Father.” God bless you for these verses and for your life which backs them up with deeds.

I thoroughly enjoyed this post – I’m glad you reposted it. We have a Cistercian monastery about an hour and a half’s drive from here. I’ve stayed there twice – and visited several other times. My favourite thing to do was to observe the Daily Office in the chapel with the monks. Ohhh… you’ve made me want to go back for another visit! And my favourite is: Alone with your thoughts, humbly open your heart, and let healing begin.

I thought I would re blog some of my very early posts from when I started blogging. At that time I had very few readers and I think it is a shame that some of the posts I loved were not seen. Now that I have a few readers whom I really appreciate I thought I would push my luck and see if I can get you to read my earlier haiku and ramblings. Hope you enjoy them x

This one is very meaningful to me … I often wonder what it would be like to be enveloped in the lifestyle of the monks — the lessons that could be learned from observation and being in their presence. Thank you for sharing.

Nothing complicated in prayers. You’ve said so in your verse Clever way of presentation with haiku interspersed with pics. Nicely heavens!
